Get your coffee for this one!

This year has been amazing and full of rollercoaster-like moments for the Thales’ community. From the thrilling experience of the first ever Thales Royale or the first on-chain Olympics markets, to dealing with a Discord migration because of a rogue core contributor’s actions, to name a few.

The most important thing is that through all events and situations, we’ve stayed together as a community 💪, working cooperatively when we needed to overcome an obstacle, iterating along the way while we move forward, and celebrating our shared victories when we accomplish the milestones we’ve set up to do.

Speaking of milestones…

Next Thales Council elections with a twist

On July, the nominations for the first Thales Council went live and the elections were done following the guidelines of SIP-159, with SNX stakers voting and deciding the four members of the Council, as a way of inheriting the legitimacy of a decentralized governance structure that’s aligned with Thales.

The amount of engagement we received during the first elections was mind-blowing and we were very excited to see so many people putting their candidacy up and willing to participate in the decentralized governing body of Thales.

As a reminder, the Thales Council’s principal duties are to approve protocol-level changes to the Thales-market codebase.

Today, after months of active development and with the THALES token out in the wild for some time, we are announcing that the nomination period for Thales Council is already live.

As per TIP-10 (last technicals details being discussed, supported by Thales Council*), this new election will have some slight modifications, being the three most important to highlight:

  1. This Thales Council election will be done using your staked THALES as voting power.
  2. The voting power can be distributed among more than one candidate
  3. The amount of Thales Council members it’s now 7, as a tribute to the “Seven sages of Greece” (Thales was one of the seven sages).
  4. The governance epoch will be from December 2021 until June 2022.

How to participate in the nominations?

We are welcoming everyone to participate in this process by submitting a pitch (you could expand on your involvement with the Thales community or why you think you’ll make a great council member, for example) and a valid Ethereum address (or ENS) that’s gonna be used for voting on the TIPs.

👉 Please post a message with your pitch in our dedicated Discord channel #council-nominations.

The nominating period has begun and new nominations are considered valid until Wednesday, 15 December 2021. The cut-off is until 15:00 UTC.

Each Thales Council member will be eligible for a 1,000 THALES grant per month, continuing the initiative by the ThalesDAO to test out incentivized participation.

Some basic guidelines:

  • Anyone can self-nominate
  • Anyone can ping or tag anyone else for them to nominate themselves. Sometimes smart and productive people need a friendly push.
  • An individual retains the right to not nominate themselves after being pinged or tagged by someone else.
  • Candidates must have a valid pitch on #council-nominations, even if it’s a one-liner.
  • We’ll keep track of all nominees. Each nominee should have a preferred username and the Ethereum address they would use for voting on Snapshot proposals (TIPs).

After the nominations period ends and TIP-10 is approved, voters will have from Wednesday, 15 December 2021 16:00 UTC through Wednesday, 22 December 2021 16:00 UTC to cast votes and elect in the new Thales Council aka “The seven sages of Greece”.

And why did we chose Wednesday 15th?

Thales community call: EOY edition

Time for a call!

That’s right folks! We’ve decided to organize a community call to look the year in retrospective but also to share with all the Thales Titans some news regarding (but not limited to):

  • Thales dapp L2 deployment (Optimism)
  • Thales Royale aftermath and next iterations
  • THALES token on Optimism
  • “A tale of Thales”
  • Website re-design

This community call will be held in Thales’ Discord on Wednesday 15th at 15:00 UTC and will mark the closing of Thales Council nominations.

Once the community call is over, the voting period for the Thales Council will start and you’ll be able to cast your vote if you have staked THALES.

You better not miss this one as it’s gonna be alpha-charged, consider yourself notified!

And if this wasn’t enough to get you pumped…

Thales new governance site

As a decentralized governance is key to what we are set to accomplish we decided that it was about time for the governance structure to get a makeover, unifying things in one place and finally having…

A proper governance site.

Yes, you can click and check it now 👆

This will be the new home of proposed (and voted) TIPs along with everything related to Thales’ governance.

Looking good, eh? (pun intended, of course)

Next steps

If you wanna stay in the loop, be one of the firsts to know about Thales’ developments or share your ideas with the mighty Titans then you are more than welcome in Thales Discord.

And if you were looking for a way to actively participate in Thales…

Yes.
